Here are a few things some of our participants have to say about the Living Strong Living Well program.

— Joan
Johnston

After a second major surgery in four months I was so weak I could hardly get out of bed. I found the brochure for Living Strong Living Well program in my radiologist's office and wanted to come. Exercise had been an important part of my life. When I called the program to see if I could come when I felt strong enough, they urged me to come right away.... The encouragement of the LSLW staff, the commitment to come twice a week, and the company of other class members made a big difference in my morale and my progress toward health.

Thanks to this program I've joined the YMCA and exercise three times a week. Results are good. I do a 4 mph walk on the treadmill and press and lift weights each session. Thanks! You've made a difference in my life.

The Living Strong, Living Well program is expertly designed to rehabilitate its participants and to encourage them to adopt healthy exercise programs into their ongoing life style. The overall success of the program is due not only in its initial design, but also and more importantly attributable to the warm, caring, and expert personnel who make up the program’s staff, including Stanford and YMA people. They really care about setting up a personalized fitness program designed just for you, and being available when you have questions or special problems.

After dealing with the shock of being told I have cancer, going through the agony of deciding on my treatment, then the stress and trauma of the treatment, plus the isolation of it all — it was wonderful to come in here for this program and feel like a normal person again.

The Living Strong Living Well program was a saving grace and a silver lining to me after my diagnosis of cancer. I hate to think what would have happened to my body if I had not started to exercise in your program.

This has been a tremendous gift. I'm a real couch potato and now I look forward to exercising on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the program.

I feel like I can cope with stress better.

It's really motivating to be with others who have had the same experience and are starting out on something new.
